Executive Function Coaching
What does Executive function coaching look like?
Standard productivity templates expect every brain to process time, energy, and tasks the same way. When those templates fail, it isn't a lack of discipline or effort—it's a system mismatch.
Whether you are a student drowning in competing academic expectations or an adult trapped in an overwhelm cycle, executive function coaching at Focal Point Support is about building low-friction, personalized structures around your natural cognitive strengths. We focus on buy-in, practical and functional system design, and genuine self-advocacy and appreciation so you can reclaim control of your day.
Typically, executive function coaching follows these three steps:
Discovery & Awareness
We start by understanding how your specific brain operates in the real world. Together, we identify your strengths, map out current friction points, and unpack where systems are breaking down, all while also dissecting your patterns and providing researched back information about your profile. This is always done without judgment or unrealistic expectations.
Strategizing & Experimentation
There is no one-size-fits-all planner or app. We co-create and test practical strategies in real-time, tweaking tools, routines and systems until we find what actually sticks for your daily routine.
Some like to describe this step as “throw things at a wall and see what sticks”
Optimization & Independence
Here, we focus on solidifying habits, building self-advocacy, and fine-tuning routines so you maintain momentum and feel fully in control of your own path. My ultimate goal is that you feel comfortable and confident with what you have created that you can go off and live your best life.

Navigating school isn't just about turning in assignments - it's about prioritizing between competing deadlines, interpreting criteria and teachers’ expectations along with one’s own energy levels.
As an independent, neutral advocate, mentor, and strategist, I work directly with your student to build genuine self-advocacy and executive function skills. My role is to carry the executive function load with your student so parents can step out of the manager role and, as one parent put it, "sit back and make soup.

Every session is student-led based on what is creating friction that week - whether it's an assignment causing task paralysis, an upcoming exam, or a project rubric that feels impossible to decode.
Some areas we work on include but are not limited to:
Navigating School Systems: Breaking down (chunking) complex rubrics, multi-step assignments, and online portals (like ManageBac, Schoology, or Google Classroom) into actionable steps.
System Creation: Creating systems that have your child’s buy in to help them build long term strategies to support their brains long past their educational career
Parent-Student Alignment: Clear, respectful communication boundaries so parents stay informed without having to police or nag.
Self-Advocacy Skills: Teaching students how and when to communicate proactively with teachers for accommodations, feedback, or extensions.
-
Initial Discovery Call and First Sessions: Parent, student, and I meet briefly to map out goals, discuss school dynamics, and identify current stress points.
Rapport & System Setup: The first sessions focus on building trust and establishing a comfortable working relationship. Together, we build a realistic weekly workflow tailored to the student’s actual workload and energy.
Ongoing Coaching & Fine-Tuning: Weekly 1:1 sessions balance Macro-EF (long-term planning, understanding their brain, metacognition, self-advocacy) and Micro-EF (tackling specific weekly assignments, organizing study materials, interpreting rubrics).

When you're trapped in an overwhelm cycle, typical advice only adds to the frustration. Adult coaching focuses on restoring your sense of control. Together we focus on navigating workplace expectations, managing home logistics, or prioritizing all the tasks going on.
You’ve made it this far, and you are doing great! You don't need to be "fixed." My goal is to reduce your daily cognitive load, help you navigate the expectations put on you in a way that makes sense for your brain, and co-create an authentic, functional routine that respects the ebb and flow of your daily capacity.
-
Overcoming Task Paralysis: Unpacking overwhelm and breaking complex projects or life admin into manageable action steps to help build momentum.
Sustainable Systems: Design realistic external systems, balance work expectations, manage your inbox, home organization, and energy management.
Self-Advocacy & Goal Alignment: Shifting from "what I should be doing" to clear, values-aligned action. We work on communicating your needs, setting boundaries, and navigate job and life expectations without burnout.
Metacognition: Bridging the gap between tasks that flow easily and areas that drain you. Together we will learn what to optimize, what to delegate, and how to protect your energy.
-
Initial Discovery Call: We meet to discuss your current pain points and overall goals.
System Setup: In our first few sessions, we establish what’s top of mind, mapping out both macro-systems (calendar, task hubs) and micro-routines (specific work projects or daily transitions).
Ongoing Coaching & Fine-Tuning: Regular 1:1 sessions can include, but are not limited to accountability on your goals, working through real- time roadblocks, refining your systems as demands shift, and building sustainable long-term independence.
